How to Set Up Emails with Exchange Server – Email Configuration Guide
How to Set Up Your Emails with Exchange Server
This guide will walk you through the steps to configure your email to be handled by a remote Exchange Server by setting up MX records. Please note, this guide does not cover setting up your own Exchange Server but rather using an existing Exchange Server for email.
What is an Exchange Server?
An Exchange Server enables remote email management for your domain. To direct your emails to an Exchange Server, you need to update your domain’s MX records (Mail Exchange records) in your DNS settings.
Steps to Set Up MX Records
Follow these steps to configure MX records for Exchange:
- Log into your Web Hosting Control Panel and go to My Domains > Hosted Domains.
- Create two subdomains, such as mx1.my-best-domain.com and mx2.my-best-domain.com.
- Go to My Domains > DNS Records and update the A records for each subdomain:
- Set mx1.my-best-domain.com to IP address 192.168.1.2.
- Set mx2.my-best-domain.com to IP address 192.168.2.2.
- Update the MX records for my-best-domain.com to point to mx1.my-best-domain.com and mx2.my-best-domain.com.
Important: If the Exchange Server administrator provided hostnames instead of IP addresses, skip steps 1 and 2, and directly replace the MX records with the provided hostnames.
Propagation Time
Please note that DNS record changes may take up to 24 hours to propagate globally. Check back after this period to confirm your email configuration.
