How to Set Up My Emails with Exchange Server
Discover how to configure your emails using an Exchange Server efficiently.
Overview
This article explains how to set up your emails with a remote Exchange Server. It does not cover how to set up your own Exchange Server.
Editing Your Domain's MX Records
To enable your emails to be managed by a remote Exchange Server, you must edit your domain's MX (Mail Exchange) records. Your Exchange Server administrator will provide the exact values, typically requiring at least two hosts or IPs to be configured as MX records for your domain.
For example, if your Exchange Server’s IP addresses are 192.168.1.2
and 192.168.2.2
, and your domain name is my-best-domain.com
, follow these steps:
Step-by-Step Setup
-
Go to your Web Hosting Control Panel and navigate to My Domains > Hosted Domains. Create two subdomains:
mx1.my-best-domain.com
mx2.my-best-domain.com
-
Update the A records for each subdomain in My Domains > DNS Records:
- Find
mx1.my-best-domain.com
and update its A record to192.168.1.2
, then click Change. - Find
mx2.my-best-domain.com
and update its A record to192.168.2.2
, then click Change.
- Find
-
In the DNS Records section, find
my-best-domain.com
and replace its current MX records with:mx1.my-best-domain.com
mx2.my-best-domain.com
Propagation Time
Be aware that any changes made to your domain's DNS records may take up to 24 hours to propagate. This delay can affect the email routing for your domain.
