How to Transfer Emails from Your Previous Provider
How to Transfer Your Emails from Your Previous Provider
Category: Emails
Here are step-by-step instructions on how to move your emails from your previous hosting provider:
Option 1: Works in All Cases
This method does not require assistance from your current or old provider.
Step-by-Step Instructions:
- Set up an IMAP account for each of your mailboxes using a mail client like Outlook or Thunderbird. If you are unsure, contact your old hosting provider to obtain the IP address of the IMAP mail server.
- Download all your emails locally, including all folders such as Sent and Drafts, to your computer using the IMAP accounts.
- Update the domain name servers to the ones listed in the Hosted Domains section of your hosting Control Panel if you haven't done so already.
- Create all the mailboxes you will be using via the Email Manager section of the Control Panel.
- Create IMAP accounts in your mail client for each of the mailboxes. Do not delete the previously created IMAP accounts yet.
- Once you have the two IMAP accounts for each mailbox, drag and drop all messages and folders from the old IMAP account to the new one. This will upload all emails from your computer to our mail server.
Option 2: May Require Assistance from Your Current/Old Provider
Step-by-Step Instructions:
- Check with your old hosting provider if you can access the /mail/ directory. You should find folders for each of your email accounts to download to your computer.
- Create all the mailboxes you will be using from the Email Manager section of your Control Panel.
- Upload all mailbox folders to your hosting account with us using FTP. Upload the folders directly to the /www/ directory. Each mailbox folder (e.g., [email protected]) should contain the following sub-folders: "cur" and "new".
- Navigate to the File Manager section of the hosting Control Panel and go to the directory containing the uploaded folders from the old hosting provider. Copy all the files as follows:
- From /www/uploaded-mail/[email protected]/cur/ to /mail/[email protected]/cur/
- From /www/uploaded-mail/[email protected]/new/ to /mail/[email protected]/new/
- If you experience problems, check if /mail/[email protected]/ and its subfolders have permissions set to 755.
- Log into the mailbox and verify if the messages were copied successfully. Repeat the steps for each of your mailboxes.
