Problems with Receiving Emails (Incoming Mail)

There could be several reasons for problems with incoming mail, and you should first find out what is causing the problem before you can resolve it.

1. Domain Not Set Up Properly

If your domain has expired or if it hasn't been set up correctly, you will not be able to receive any e-mails associated with your domain (e.g., [email protected]). There are a few things you can do to ensure that your domain is properly set up:

  • Make sure that your domain has the correct name servers.
  • Ensure that your domain uses the correct MX records. To reset the MX records of your domain to the default ones, go to the My Domains > DNS Records section of your Web Hosting Control Panel, find your domain, and click on the "Revert" button. The change takes effect within 1-2 hours.
  • Check that your domain is properly hosted. There should be a green check sign in the "NS status" column of My Domains > Hosted Domains.
  • Verify that your domain is active (not expired) by checking the expiration date in the "Expiration Data" column.

2. File Quota Exceeded

Your e-mail accounts share your hosting account's disk and file quotas. If your account has exceeded the file quota or disk quota limit, you will not be able to receive e-mails. Check the Account Usage table on the left side of your Web Hosting Control Panel.

3. Mail Client (Outlook) Related Problems

If you can't receive e-mails using Outlook or any other e-mail client on your local computer, check your mail via the webmail to see if it works. Access webmail via the Email > Webmail section of your Web Hosting Control Panel.

If you can receive emails via webmail, but not through your local client, investigate the following:

  • Incorrect email settings. Look for tutorials in the Knowledge Base.
  • Real-time anti-virus protection may be slowing down the connection. Temporarily disable it to test.
  • A firewall may be blocking the connection to the incoming mail server.
  • Your Outlook account may be corrupted. Look for tutorials to resolve this issue.
  • The connection to the mail server could be interrupted by a third party, like your ISP's Firewall.

If the test fails, contact your ISP for further assistance.
