What is a Domain Transfer?
Category: Domain Transfers
A domain name transfer involves a domain name that you’ve already registered with another company but wish to transfer over to us.
Requirements for a Successful Domain Transfer
- Domain Age: The domain name must be at least 60 days old; it should not be registered less than 60 days ago.
- Unlock Domain: The domain name must be unlocked for transfer. (More Info)
- EPP Key: The domain's EPP transfer authorization key must be provided (if supported by the TLD). This can be acquired from the current registrar. (More Info)
- Respond to Verification Emails: Transfer verification emails must be responded to, sent within 24 hours after the transfer initiation to the Administrative Contact email in the WHOIS record.
Transfer Process
Once the domain transfer is confirmed by following the instructions in the verification email, the transfer procedure becomes fully automated and may take 3-5 business days to complete.
Note that some specific domain types (TLDs) may have different requirements or cannot be transferred at all. However, the aforementioned requirements are valid for the majority of TLDs (domain extensions).
