What is SPF and How Can I Activate It
What is SPF and How Can I Activate It?
Discover how SPF enhances your email security by preventing sender address forgery.
Understanding SPF (Sender Policy Framework)
SPF (Sender Policy Framework) is an essential method for preventing sender address forgery in emails. While SPF does not directly stop SPAM (junk email), it allows domain owners to define legitimate mail sources for their domain, helping to authenticate email senders and enhance overall email security.
How to Activate SPF for Your Domain
To enable SPF for your domain, follow these simple steps:
- Log into your Control Panel and navigate to Email > SPF Manager.
- Select the exact domain name you wish to protect.
- Change the Status to ON from the drop-down menu next to your domain name.
Required Settings for SPF Activation
When configuring SPF, ensure to fill in the following fields correctly:
- Hosts: List all hosts authorized to send mail on behalf of your domain, e.g.,
mail.my-best-domain.com
. Separate multiple hosts with a space or comma. - IPv4: Enter the IP address of your SMTP mail server, e.g.,
mail.my-best-domain.com
. Use tools like WhatIsMyDNS to find all IP addresses associated with your mail server. - IPv6: Leave this field blank.
Recommendation: Select the option "Allow my domain name's MX records only" under the IPv6 field. This setting restricts email sending to only the MX records stored for your domain.
Final Steps
Once you have configured all the necessary fields, click on the Edit SPF Protection button. Please note that SPF Record propagation may take up to 24 hours.
